For the purposes of not losing track of the history of the clan, we will only pick out the names of interest. It should be noted that by the time Sekabaka Kintu came to fight for the Buganda throne, most of Ssemutumba’s family, himself inclusive, actively participated in the fight (war) against a one Bemba Musota, who Kintu and his army eventually defeated and united all the Clans to create the Baganda Tribe.
The word “Obuganda” literally means joining together, therefore Kintu basically got his Army and all the clans that fought / defeated and united them to create the Ganda Tribe, prior to this, all Clans were operating and governed in seclusion.
To confirm Ssemutumba’s family contribution to the defeat of Bemba Musota and eventual creation of Buganda, King Kintu not only setup his Palace in a place called Nnono, land given to him by Ssemutumba’s family just next to Nsisi, but also rewarded some members of his family with the following roles;
- Ssemutumba was given to head the Busujju County.
- Kabaka Kintu’s Palace was constructed with Ssemutumba as the head, a task that lead to the King giving him a slogan (Ggwe Mpagi, ggwe Luwaga) literally meaning you are the pillar that holds everything together, this slogan became the Nseenene Clan Slogan (Omubala) to this day.
- Ssemutumba’s Grandson, Kajubi was given a task to cut timber for building Kintu’s Palace, Kajubi later on got a nick name Batema (they are cutting), it is told that when the timber run out, the builders would demand for the more and his answer was always “Batema”, we assume the builders were too fast.
- Kajubi Batema was also appointed to be the head of the Busujju County, possibly due to his contribution in the struggle or carrying out a good job in building the Kings Palace.
Back to the Clan history, Ssemutumba lived for so many years, through the reigns of Sekabaka Kintu, Chwa Nabakka and Kimera. When he passed on he was buried in Nsisi.
